Water Efficiency Management System (ISO 46001)
The protection and sustainable use of water resources has become a critical priority in today's business world. The Water Efficiency Regulation was established to enable businesses to manage water resources more effectively, reduce water consumption and promote sustainable water management.
The Water Efficiency Regulation, published in the Official Gazette of 27 December 2024 under number 32765, requires businesses operating in certain sectors to obtain a Water Efficiency Certificate.
This regulation not only helps companies meet environmental sustainability goals, but also allows them to optimise their operating costs and gain competitive advantage. For exporting companies in particular, water efficiency practices offer a great opportunity to meet environmental sensitivities in international markets.
The Water Efficiency Regulation is not only a legal obligation, but also an important step in enabling companies to use water resources more consciously and efficiently. In addition to avoiding possible criminal sanctions, compliance with the Regulation will help companies reduce their costs by optimising water consumption.
Companies covered by the Water Efficiency Regulation
The Regulation requires the companies listed in Annex-1 and Annex-2 to implement water efficiency systems and complete the certification processes:
Annex-1: Businesses required to install a water efficiency system
Annex-2: Industrial plants, organised industrial zones, free zones and industrial zones operating on the basis of the NACE code
Compliance Process with Water Efficiency Regulation
1. Current Situation Analysis and Water Use Mapping
As Greenlife Consulting team, the current water usage of the enterprises is analysed in detail in the field so that they can optimise their water consumption. The mass balance extracted during the field study, covering all processes from water inlet to outlet, helps to identify efficiency opportunities by revealing the water consumption habits of the enterprise.
2. Determination of Water Efficiency Roadmap
Specific water efficiency targets are established for each enterprise and applicable water saving measures are derived. Sustainable water management strategies are determined with reference to the European Union BREF documents.
3. Training and Awareness Raising Activities
Raising employee awareness on water efficiency is a critical step in promoting sustainable water use. Employees are encouraged to contribute to water saving practices through in-company awareness trainings.
4. Certification Process Management
While managing the application processes required for the enterprises to obtain water efficiency certificates, we proceed in harmony with the authorised audit institutions.
5. Audit and Continuous Improvement
The effectiveness of the water efficiency management system is ensured through regular audits and continuous improvement processes.
Water Efficiency Documents and Criteria
Under the Water Efficiency Regulation, three different levels of water efficiency certificates are issued to companies. These certificates are determined according to the companies' compliance with water management practices, wastewater recovery and sustainable water management principles:
Blue Certificate
SuAwarded to companies that have established a water efficiency management system and meet the baseline requirements.
Green Certificate
Awarded to companies that meet the requirements for wastewater recovery and sustainable water management.
Turquoise Certificate
The most prestigious certificate awarded to companies that meet the highest water efficiency standards, minimise water consumption and recycle wastewater to the highest level.
